ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

Root canals become necessary when the pulp of a tooth that fills the root becomes inflamed or infected. This can happen due to a deep, decayed cavity or from trauma to the tooth. A root canal saves the natural tooth, and with the crown that is placed after the procedure, a natural looking smile.

During the procedure your dentist will remove the pulp from the tooth and then clean and disinfect the inside of the tooth before refilling it with a material that is similar to rubber. The dentist will then cover the area with a filling or a crown to protect the tooth. In most cases, the results will last a lifetime.

Patients in need of a root canal are often experiencing pain in the affected area due to inflammation of the infected pulp and also possibly from abscesses near or on the bone. These areas will heal and the pain will go away after the root canal has been performed.

They are most often completed in one to two visits, and our dentist and dental assistants will be very attentive to your comfort level.
